kicks for sale

by bofa xesjum

an ape in a pinstriped suit
spoke excitedly with feminine gestures
wrapped tightly about one another

a lot of things that wouldn't be legal
because i was still afraid of girls
and an ape in a pinstriped suit

wrapped tightly around the lamppost
she sure is something
speaking excitedly with feminine gestures

while you were drunk
the ape in the pinstriped suit

"i have to say he gave it the old college try"

i said i was sorry i had no whisky
because i was still afraid of girls
i have to break out of it or go nuts

watching and spying on her neighbors
she saw a lot of things that wouldn't be legal
while we were all drunk

they spoke excitedly with feminine gestures
and i was still afraid of those darn girls
while mother was drunk

she sure is something
he began to climb the stairs
with a wanton display of versatility

yes, a lot of things wouldn't be legal
when you are afraid of girls
he began to climb the stairs

a good time is had by all persons

by bofa xesjum

have the new year do it

first say, you are in the way

forget the last day for long

make great with the thing

the little man went at the world

know your own life and take it

the other hand saw the old one

come right up about the part

the child thought big into the eye

look high over the woman

the place wants different after

give small work for a large week

find the next case and tell

ask the young government about the early

work seems important to the company

few numbers feel the public group

try the bad problem and leave

able facts call the same

that is not he as you

one all would be there

you can come in if you like, the woman said...

by bofa xesjum

but i am sure everything is changed
the whole place was renovated a few years ago…

you must have walked the streets until after midnight
but here you are at last!
knowledge of nature will get you through every time

i did not sink under my torments
but did feel a horrible anticipation
the poor are generous, and sometimes keep gerbils as pets

you look wonderful!
those torments never had a chance against you
a gerbil is different from a hamster, i am told

even poor people have time on their hands these days
and are horribly afraid of being kidnapped by demons
what did i come here for?

my tormentor was outwardly a civilized gentleman
i was down on the program for one number
don juan on the caravan to nowhere

the temptation was too strong for poor juan
and he wrapped his soul in brown paper
wondering why he had been born

“if nature had a balance, it would not be nature”

he intoned with his bright beady eyes looking into mine
you know i am absurdly in love

what are you so afraid of?
knowledge of nature is only half the task
here you are at last!

i realize you are feeling a horrible anticipation
as we all do every day and night of our lives
we are all absurdly in love

the importunate ones

by bofa xesjum

we just started - i can’t handle this
don’t make me put this paper down
just for a thrill

every day i’ve got the blues
you said that before
but i loved the sound of the rain

you were always thrill crazy, doris that’s why i wanted you to stay away from millicent
go away, kid, you bother me

that was my grandpa’s solution to everything
i know i am repeating myself
but can’t you see i’m busy

no, how was i supposed to know?
you never gave me a chance
never gave me a chance to show what i could do

you should have spoken up
because every day i had the blues
i had dreams once

thrilling, indescribable dreams
such as no one ever had before
put that paper down and listen to me

i was always told to go away and stop bothering people
but i craved excitement
oh, forget you ever knew me!

but i loved the sound of the rain
it is so easy to forget
and that, really, is all there is to it

when we returned to the old house...

by bofa xesjum

we found that it had been converted into a condominium
most of the units of which were yoga studios

because ignorance is a frail base for virtue
a frail base for virtue indeed
i must have walked the streets until after midnight

the streets i so loved and feared
what did i come here for?
he was looking at me with bright beady eyes

they were horribly afraid of him
but i did not sink under my torments
i felt the same horrible anticipation

the poor are generous with their things
knowledge of nature is only half the task
he kept looking at me with bright beady eyes

i was down on the program for one number
you know i’m absurdly in love
knowledge of nature will only take you so far

here you are at last!
i am down for only one number
what did i come here for?

“i blame no one… i take full responsibility”

ignorance is a frail base for virtue
i walked the streets until it began to rain

i was hopelessly in love
he kept his bright beady eyes on me the whole time
the temptation was too strong

they were all afraid of him
their ignorance did not protect them
and the temptation was too strong

route 99 blues

by bofa xesjum

as a child i always hated the law of gravity
and had dreams of burrowing to the center off the earth
while dad read his newspaper

if i ever get the chance
and i am not too busy that day
i will tell jody to go away and stop bothering me

how was i supposed to know
they were caught making whoopee behind the bandstand
but they gave me my first big break

every day i’ve got the blues
and every day i look for a new thrill
they tell me i should know better

i had dreams once, big dreams
you would laugh if i told you
i know, i know, you’ve heard it all before

as a child i hated the chains of society
and being told i should keep busy
but i loved the sound of the rain

this world isn’t big enough for me
i heard that lonesome whistle blow
you haven’t heard it quite the same way

i was a strange child
as you know all too well
don’t make me point my steely gaze at you

forget you ever knew me
just a guy who went looking for thrills
but was never too busy to help a pal

the cormorant

by bofa xesjum

what about the antelope
what about the buzzard
the cormorant

the dingo dog
the ectoplasm baking in the sun
the financial analyst

the giraffe and the gorilla
hundreds of clowns waiting for a train in indianapolis that never showed up

it starts to snow
just like the last time

knowledge is useful
when you are the last person to leave the theater

mom
nowhere

the reward

by bofa xesjum

they told me dr pennington
doesn’t practice here any more

gone, they said
we don’t know where he went

he was an old time doctor
didn’t ask any questions

patching up a gunshot wound
was all in a day’s work to him

they chased us out of huntington
every last one of us

we were directly descended
from the james brothers

frank and jesse
were not bad guys

they were good guys
they settled the west

the railroad had other ideas
then wells fargo got into the act

and offered the unheard of sum
of five hundred dollars!

but no one lived
to collect the reward

and they buried him deep

the sad alligator

greasy eggs, greasy bacon
wind and rain
the house is shaking

the snail crawls
in the shadow of the 18-wheeler

the whale dives deeper

onion soup for lunch
not again, not again

rain batters the tent

he tried very hard
he made the most sincere effort -

"glad to replace it"

to forgive is not so hard, is it?

dewdrops

desperate
in the afternoon

the frog watches
the dancing sunbeams

the red beetles

brushing vanilla cookie crumbs
from his blue suspenders

flowers watch slowly

“maybe i just didn’t get it”

catch you guys later

i thought life was real

sad alligator
white flamingo
pink moon

there is no place like home

a shadow in a green sky

running for her life
but i am dead
