route 99 blues

by bofa xesjum

as a child i always hated the law of gravity
and had dreams of burrowing to the center off the earth
while dad read his newspaper

if i ever get the chance
and i am not too busy that day
i will tell jody to go away and stop bothering me

how was i supposed to know
they were caught making whoopee behind the bandstand
but they gave me my first big break

every day i’ve got the blues
and every day i look for a new thrill
they tell me i should know better

i had dreams once, big dreams
you would laugh if i told you
i know, i know, you’ve heard it all before

as a child i hated the chains of society
and being told i should keep busy
but i loved the sound of the rain

this world isn’t big enough for me
i heard that lonesome whistle blow
you haven’t heard it quite the same way

i was a strange child
as you know all too well
don’t make me point my steely gaze at you

forget you ever knew me
just a guy who went looking for thrills
but was never too busy to help a pal
