a romance of the wilderness

they tugged and tore at each other
with countenances pale even to ghastliness
they tugged and tore at each other

the artifices of his depraved countrymen
exceedingly decrepit and infirm
you red-eyed devil

robbing her fair visage of her single charm
with the artifices of his depraved countrymen
robbing her fair visage of her single charm

"fair as is your outward form, you are foul - infinitely foul"

united with a frank and modest spirit
a vision of serious duties and little company

i sat awhile in perfect silence
with the stern joy that a warrior should feel
you red-eyed devil

as he stands over his fallen foe
his countenance pale in his triumph
pale as the stars fading behind him

on the desolate battlefield
i say it's outrageous
her fair visage hovered before him

i sat awhile in perfect silence
with the stern joy that a warrior should feel
marked out by her immaculate footsteps

not a lively nor a sociable place
they tugged and tore at each others hair
i sat in perfect silence
